Using Growth Rate
How to use the Growth Rate method
📈 Growth Rate Projection Method in PlanGuru
The Growth Rate projection method allows you to forecast an account by applying a growth percentage to historical data. While the concept is simple, PlanGuru offers several options to fine-tune how growth is applied.
1️⃣ Selecting the Growth Rate Method
To apply Growth Rate:
-
Double-click on an account, or right-click and select Edit.
-
Choose Growth Rate from the projection method options.
2️⃣ Base to Grow Options
This setting determines which prior period PlanGuru uses as the base for applying growth:
-
Year-over-Year
-
Each month is based on the same month of the prior year.
-
Example: Jan 2022 = Jan 2021 × Growth %.
-
-
Month-over-Month
-
Each month is based on the immediately preceding month.
-
Example: Feb 2022 = Jan 2022 × Growth %.
-
Useful for steady month-to-month increases.
-
3️⃣ Entering Growth Rates
In the Growth Rate grid, you can:
-
Enter growth rates for each forecasted month.
-
View historical growth rates by month and year.
-
Review averages to continue trends into future forecasts.
4️⃣ Start Growth Over
This setting controls when the growth calculation begins:
-
You can manually enter projections for a set of months/years.
-
Then choose when PlanGuru should start applying growth automatically.
Example:
-
Enter manual values for 2022.
-
Start Growth Over = 2023.
-
PlanGuru applies growth rates from 2023 onward.
5️⃣ Growth Rate Source
You can choose where the growth rates come from:
-
Enter Growth Rate
-
Enter rates directly into the grid.
-
-
Link to Assumptions Line
-
Pull growth rates from an Assumptions & KPIs line.
-
Useful when multiple accounts should use the same growth rate.
-
Steps for Linking to Assumptions:
-
Go to Assumptions & KPIs → Assumptions tab.
-
Right-click → Add Line.
-
Enter a description, select Manual Entry, and set format to Percentage.
-
Add and enter your growth rate.
-
Return to the account and choose Link to Assumptions Line.
Note: The linked line must be formatted as a percentage, otherwise it cannot be used as a growth rate source.
