Entering data manually into the Balance Sheet

How to enter data manually in the Balance Sheet

The Manual Entry method is PlanGuru’s most basic projection method, but also one of the most frequently used due to its flexibility and simplicity.

While there are more specialized projection methods for certain account types, manual entry is ideal for fine-tuning balances or making direct adjustments.

1️⃣ Applying Manual Entry

To apply manual entry to a Balance Sheet account:

  1. Double-click on the account, or right-click and select Edit.

  2. In the method selector window, choose Manual Entry.

2️⃣ Manual Entry Options for Balance Sheet Accounts

Option A: Enter Additions or Reductions

  • Use the grid at the bottom of the window.

  • Enter monthly increases or decreases to adjust the prior month’s balance.

  • Top rows display historical monthly changes for reference.

Example:

  • Add $10,000 in January 2022.

  • Add $10,000 in June 2022.

  • Balance increases by $10,000 in each of those months.

Option B: Enter Balances Directly in the Sheet

  • Type amounts directly into Balance Sheet cells.

  • PlanGuru will carry that balance forward automatically.

Example:

  • Enter $50,000 in September 2022.

  • That balance continues forward into subsequent months unless adjusted again.

3️⃣ When to Use Manual Entry

Manual entry is most useful for:

  • Adjustments to accounts that require specific overrides.

  • Testing what-if balances for individual months.

  • Fine-tuning accounts without building complex projection logic.
